I introduce to you an all around visual artist. Photographer, Videographer, Era Connoisseur, Music Enthusiast, DJ, Vintage Specialist and Fashion Guru….ANDRE UNCUT.
Andre Uncut was born Andre Gray and is a 23-year-old talented Jamaican-Brooklyn native. I followed Andre’s Instagram page a few years ago to feed my nostalgic thirst and never turned back since. His Instagram portrays women and men of your favorite eras. He remakes your favorite songs and looks adding his own flavor to our already known eclectic culture. Andre’s resume lists music videos, short films, beautiful portraits, magazines, clothing brands and more. His non stop hustle, work ethic and thirst keeps him at the top of my favorite artist list. If I had a list of all the people i want to see make it far, he is definitely at the top. With his supporters and muses he continues to break barriers with his all around refreshing aesthetic.
I have met and worked with Andre on several different occasions. First because we have a lot of mutual friends then we became great friends on our own. Very good people if I say so myself. There is definitely a beautiful thing about people who are also as good as people as their work. I would also like to say that the spaces that he creates in are always in good vibrations. He creates this mellow and comfortable aura that make all his clients feel comfortable in order to bring out the inner star in them. While you’re there expect some good background music, if you inside an incense burning and hella old ass Jamaican/NYC jokes.
His prices aren’t crazy either, YET. So book your next shoot, your next video, whatever. This guy is on the rise and on his way to great things, definitely one to follow. Support TALENT and get in contact with the dopest out!
I got in touch with Andre to get some more insight behind the artist’s mind and to answer some questions his followers might be dying to know and here’s what he had to say.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ERA?
A: My favorite era would have to be the 1980s. The music, the fashion, the art. It was all fresh and original. Even though it was the crack era, it was the birth of many ideas and made NYC what it is today.
Q: WHAT ALBUMS ARE ON YOUR TOP 5?
A: Outkast : The Love Below/Speakerboxx / Michael Jackson : Off the Wall / Green Day : American Idiot / Pharrell : In my Mind / Kid Cudi : Man on the Moon.
Q: WHAT INSPIRES YOUR NEW IDEAS EVERYDAY?
A: Looking at music videos and watching movies highly inspire all my ideas.
Q: WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE CLOTHING BRANDS?
A: Favorite clothing brands are Billionaire Boys Club, Ice Cream, Rick Owens and Polo. Also, Karl Kani.
Q: WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH WITH YOUR ART?
A: What I hope to accomplish is getting into multiple museums and accumulating enough money to make a business to give other people a chance in film production or even photography.
Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?
A: In the next five years I see myself in a condo being a creative director for either a museum or production company.
Q: IF YOU COULD HAVE A DINNER MEETING WITH ANYONE DEAD OR ALIVE WHO WOULD IT BE?
A: It would probably be Aaliyah, I know that it would be a good time and full of jokes being that she’s from Brooklyn. I’ll ask her a whole bunch of questions.
Q: WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE PHOTOGRAPHER AND VIDEOGRAPHER?
A: Favorite photographer would have to be Helmut Newton. I look at his Polaroids for inspiration. Favorite videographer would have to be Jeremy Rall & Hype Williams when it comes to music videos. Movies would be F. Gary Gray.
Q: WHAT ITEMS ARE ON YOUR WISHLIST TO EXPAND YOUR GADGET LIST?
A: Hmm you asking some questions (Had to throw that in there lol) Gadgets that I need right now would have to be Blackmagic Ursa Mini, that’s all I need in my life as of now. Things constantly come out.
Q: WHAT IS THE FIRST PICTURE YOU CAPTURED THAT YOU WERE PROUD OF?
A: First pic I’m proud of would have to be a Film picture I took this year recently, I was shocked that i did it. The image was very vintage.
Q: WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?
A: What I am trying to say with my photos is that vintage is cool, no matter the year, the past molded the future that you live in right now.
Q: WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN YOUR MUSES?
A: I look for the unfamiliar, or I try to make the familiar look different.
