Andre Uncut was born Andre Gray and is a 23-year-old talented Jamaican-Brooklyn native. I followed Andre’s Instagram page a few years ago to feed my nostalgic thirst and never turned back since. His Instagram portrays women and men of your favorite eras. He remakes your favorite songs and looks adding his own flavor to our already known eclectic culture. Andre’s resume lists music videos, short films, beautiful portraits, magazines, clothing brands and more. His non stop hustle, work ethic and thirst keeps him at the top of my favorite artist list. If I had a list of all the people i want to see make it far, he is definitely at the top. With his supporters and muses he continues to break barriers with his all around refreshing aesthetic.

I have met and worked with Andre on several different occasions. First because we have a lot of mutual friends then we became great friends on our own. Very good people if I say so myself. There is definitely a beautiful thing about people who are also as good as people as their work. I would also like to say that the spaces that he creates in are always in good vibrations. He creates this mellow and comfortable aura that make all his clients feel comfortable in order to bring out the inner star in them. While you’re there expect some good background music, if you inside an incense burning and hella old ass Jamaican/NYC jokes.

His prices aren’t crazy either, YET. So book your next shoot, your next video, whatever. This guy is on the rise and on his way to great things, definitely one to follow.  Support TALENT and get in contact with the dopest out!

I got in touch with Andre to get some more insight behind the artist’s mind and to answer some questions his followers might be dying to know and here’s what he had to say.

Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ERA?

A: My favorite era would have to be the 1980s. The music, the fashion, the art. It was all fresh and original. Even though it was the crack era, it was the birth of many ideas and made NYC what it is today.

Q: WHAT ALBUMS ARE ON YOUR TOP 5?

A: Outkast : The Love Below/Speakerboxx / Michael Jackson : Off the Wall / Green Day : American Idiot / Pharrell : In my Mind / Kid Cudi : Man on the Moon.

Q: WHAT INSPIRES YOUR NEW IDEAS EVERYDAY?

A: Looking at music videos and watching movies highly inspire all my ideas.

Q: WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE CLOTHING BRANDS?

A: Favorite clothing brands are Billionaire Boys Club, Ice Cream, Rick Owens and Polo. Also, Karl Kani.

Q: WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH WITH YOUR ART?

A: What I hope to accomplish is getting into multiple museums and accumulating enough money to make a business to give other people a chance in film production or even photography.

Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?

A: In the next five years I see myself in a condo being a creative director for either a museum or production company.

Q: IF YOU COULD HAVE A DINNER MEETING WITH ANYONE DEAD OR ALIVE WHO WOULD IT BE?

A: It would probably be Aaliyah, I know that it would be a good time and full of jokes being that she’s from Brooklyn. I’ll ask her a whole bunch of questions.

Q: WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE PHOTOGRAPHER AND VIDEOGRAPHER?

A: Favorite photographer would have to be Helmut Newton. I look at his Polaroids for inspiration. Favorite videographer would have to be Jeremy Rall & Hype Williams when it comes to music videos. Movies would be F. Gary Gray.

Q: WHAT ITEMS ARE ON YOUR WISHLIST TO EXPAND YOUR GADGET LIST?

A: Hmm you asking some questions (Had to throw that in there lol) Gadgets that I need right now would have to be Blackmagic Ursa Mini, that’s all I need in my life as of now. Things constantly come out.

Q: WHAT IS THE FIRST PICTURE YOU CAPTURED THAT YOU WERE PROUD OF?

A: First pic I’m proud of would have to be a Film picture I took this year recently, I was shocked that i did it. The image was very vintage.

Q: WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

A: What I am trying to say with my photos is that vintage is cool, no matter the year, the past molded the future that you live in right now.

Q: WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN YOUR MUSES?

A: I look for the unfamiliar, or I try to make the familiar look different.

Featuring Dom Doll

I introduce to you the artist and entrepreneur Dom Stanley, also known as DomDoll.

img_4991

I met Dom a few years ago at Afro Punk. She had long bright pink hair and I was instantly intrigued by her dope style. We became cool instantly and what I didn’t know was that behind her fire hair was a fire artist. We stayed in touch throughout the years and I’ve had the pleasure of watching her brand and art grow.
Very few artists are consistent with their craft nowadays and she is one of those people that grind for hers and I admire that. Dom has created a name for herself and has a very active business and clientele. So yeah, I see you eating girl.
Creatively vandalizing the walls of apartments and painting the timbs of New Yorker’s feets, she is a business, man. (She probably does timbs for people in other states, i know NYC ain’t the only city that rock timbs, we just kill them best lol biased). Her freehand painting canvases include, ANYTHING YOU WANT. Sneakers, your wall, your jacket, your jeans, your hats, you name, you give her your vision, she customizes it and delivers. Im talking Everything FREE HAND , NO STENCIL, BY THE EYE. Talent.
Her growing resume includes a collaboration with hairstylist (IG @out.on.paraole), MUA ( IG @princess_rese) and photographer (IG @m.v.e.u.s), all fellow NYC artists on the rise in our community. She hand painted the hands and faces of models on set to bring the vision to light, to art. Networking works. She’s even got her work in the hands of rapper and NYC native Fabolous! Talk about name drop. Fabolous is known to support the hood and rock some of the flyest unique pieces then the hood follow, so that was a statement in it’s own.
I see you moving in these streets Dom, and the people need to see it too! Go GIRL!

I interviewed DomDoll a few days ago, just so you guys get to know her better.
Q: At what age did you start making art and when did you decide you wanted to take art seriously?
A: I have been painting since I was a little girl. My mom used to draw all the Disney characters for me. I started taking it serious in high school but i started making a business out of it in 2012.

Q: What do you want people to feel when looking at or wearing a piece of your work?
A: When people wear my pieces I feel like they are representing me and the idea of standing out and being different. Sometimes people fear attention because they are so worried about what people will say. I truly believe that art makes such a difference and if you can wear it you might as well send a message with it.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?
A: Inspiration comes from all over. Relationships, politics, worldwide issues, fashion, celebrities, even other artists.

Q: I can tell music plays a big part in your art. What songs help you while you are creating?
A: Music plays a huge part. Motivational songs like AAR – Move Alone, Drake – Started from the Bottom, Curren$y – Silence, Kid Cudi – Enter Galactic… the list goes on.

Q: Who are your favorite artists?
A: Kendrick Lamar hands down. As far as art my fave artists are Van Gogh, Basquiat, Andy Warhol, George Condo…..There are many others but that is just to make a few.

Q: What is the biggest challenge in managing your business?
A: Honestly starting my own business has taught me so much responsibility and has caused me to mature in a lot of ways. I’ve made many mistakes and even today I am still righting my wrongs but it has helped me grow as a person.

Q: I see that you’re always busy with running orders and regulating the customers lol, When do you get time to yourself and what are you usually doing with it?
A:i have learned that there is a right time to put your pride aside and there is a right time to be firm and stick to your policies. I have met so many different people, not all pleasant, but it taught me to expect that. I learned that in this business you have to be very strict to be taken serious. I’ve learned that your brand represents you, therefore, whatever is done reflects you.

Q: Why do you consider yourself the ‘Hood’s Warhol’?
A: Warhol expressed fake relationships, the culture in his environment and I’m just trying to do that in mine.

Q: What can we expect from DomDoll this year and in the future?
A: This year I plan on having a fresh start. My first pop up shop will be this year and I truly look forward to that! Never before seen pieces and I would like to send more inspiring messages with my art.

If you wanna call my bluff, here’s some Art of hers, some proof.

Featuring Jayelthezeitgeist

IMG_2238

I introduce to you singer, songwriter and creator of “The Enlightenment” movement Jayelthezeitgeist. Representing Jamaica and The Bronx NYC, Jayel and his eclectic sound is quickly moving into the spotlight. Through “The Enlightenment” movement he brings back refreshing sounds of different eras.

His purpose involves taking the fans and listeners on a ride of nostalgia on the way to his own sound. He does it in a creative sense of enlightening them on the music, and paying homage with his own unique style. He challenges himself and other artists to create with inspiration and to explore outside of their comfort zone. Some of his inspirations include Stevie Wonder, Britney Spears, Vybz Kartel and Andre 3000, to name a few. ECLECTIC. Yall know I like Eclectic.

Untitled

Q – In your own words, what is a Zeitgeist?

A – Zeitgeist means to me the beginning of another era. Each artist that made a notable stamp on the industry/world as a whole, I’d refer to as a Zeitgeist…I’m just taking the weight of the title itself to carry and bear.

He also recently just blessed us with his mix tape entitled the “SWYSHTAPE” along with a few fire visuals.  And if I say so myself are quite impressive beginning to end. So check that out. Don’t Sleep. I warned you.

I had a pleasure of working with The Zeitgeist on his latest video “OBVIOUS” as the leading lady (YAY ME). Obvious was inspired by Jennifer Lopez’s “If you had my love” with a very cool twist which intrigued me to it, I love a good sample. If you aren’t familiar with this early vintage J Lo, I strongly suggest you watch the video before watching the remake.

Featuring DJ milky$hake #GyalFlex

Ok I know I haven’t posted in a while. I’ve been too busy living life.

Ya know, opening and closing chapters of my life.

But yo, let me introduce to you …

DJ milky$shake & #GyalFlex -The Sexy Summer Sunset Mix

AKA the soundtrack of your Summer.

IMG_5064

This gorgeous talented Filipino born-Virginia raised-NYC located mami taught herself (and still teaching herself) how to DJ within about a couple of months ( Starting April 10th to be exact * also the birthday of her favorite rapper Q-Tip * which is like extremely coincidentally awesome.)

Ever since the first day I spoke to her, I knew she had good taste in music. People that change their hair color every few months and always got headphones in usually do. Plus she’s been blessing the TopShopTopMan 5th Avenue store with her playlists for a cute minute which was needed desperately. I sat back and admired her non-stop hard work ethic and passion and it was inspiring. But she finally blessed us with this beautiful mix. So I’m gonna share it with you guys because I love it a lot and I support it.

I personally thought it was the perfect mix of genres, artists, sounds, transitions and feelings. I gravitated to the very chill vibe it gave me and i was automatically interested. It’s like when you have just enough relevant but not overrated throwbacks, current fire, and just enough rare music. Plus they all coexisted together really well which is important when making mixes, the mood was set and stayed there.

I love this mix, I think it’s appropriate for all occasions. I would listen to it if i was chillen with bae, riding the train alone, riding drop top in a car or at a chill party. It definitely fits into the sexy summer sunset vibe that it’s giving. The only thing I would’ve personally did without was the Beyoncé track. But other than that pretty dope. And we want more!

Here’s a visual of the track list.

Here’s also a visual  of your new favorite DJ giving us all types of SexySummerSunset vibes, YES.

Featuring Spez Picasso

I come to you to shine a little light share that fire, le fuego, the support of a talented young artist by the name of Spez Picasso.

For as long as I knew him, he has been talented, hardworking and had this non-stop urge to accomplish his dreams.

So its only right that I support that determination. * Its also Good ass Music/reppin’ THE BRONX hann *

About a month ago he came out with a new single “STILL“. Followed by an anticipated music video.

Here goes my short interpretation, review and commentary on it. Enjoy!

This song right here is a well delivered display of emotions. It stands for a lot.

I got hints of :

  • perseverance
  • solo
  • love
  • friendship
  • dreaming
  • nostalgia

The production behind is what got me at first listen. The sample behind the beat is from the very talented Cashmere Cat‘s “Wedding Bells” Now, this song and wedding bells both give you the same feeling but have different pin point emotions on it. If you like PND and Drake you will definitely bump to this song. Its like keep doing you and moving up no matter what you face while you getting there. A testament to being himself STILL. A very relate able song that is calm catchy and bouncy all at once.

But I want you to watch the Cashmere Cat’s song before you watch this, so you can understand the LIT eclectic vibe it portrays.

CASHMERE CAT – WEDDING BELLS

SPEZ PICASSO – STILL

Spez wrote the treatment for this video, and its perfect to me. Lonely times in the city, just you walking through New York’s amazing scenery and subway architecture with your thoughts, reflecting. An occasional flash of a women comforting him through his troubles relating to the “still getting money, still fucking bitches” line. But its still displays that lonely i don’t give a fuck aura. Definitely a great visual that matches the feels. POPPPINNNN.

While you still here. . .check out his YouTube channel…because this is not the only great song he has come out with. He can Spit.
